Join Me In The Pines, 'Should Not Roam'

Info: Join Me In The Pines (aka Dave Geraghty & Co.) have released their third single from forthcoming album, Inherit, which is due for release on the 10th of October. The track (above), 'Should Not Roam', is accompanied by a beautifully made video, directed by Laura Sheeran, you should also check out the the single 'Golden Guilt', my personal favourite of the three singles released to date. The next two months see a busy schedule for the band with the album release coinciding with tour dates around the country which will take in Cork, Wexford, Kilkenny and Dublin. Having seen JMITP's live show in the Unitarian Church in Stephen's Green back in April, I highly recommend going to any of the shows listed below if you can.

Join Me In The Pines have unveiled the title of their debut album to be Inherit which is set for release on October 10th. So far JMITP have unleashed the incredible debut single ‘Joy Is A Lion’, the stunning song ‘Golden Guilt’ and now ‘Should Not Roam’ is the third track to be uncovered from the album!  

‘Should Not Roam’ highlights the darker, more ethereal side to the album. The video was filmed and directed by Nanu Nanu’s Laura Sheeran (http://www.unit1.tv/). It features the French dancer Stephanie Dufresne…and some jelly fish! 

Join Me In The Pines released their debut single ‘Joy Is A Lion’ earlier this year to two sell out shows in Dublin’s Unitarian Church and Coughlan’s in Cork and Summer festivals appearances. Following on from this success JMITP have announced more tour dates for this year. October sees the band performing in Whelan’s, Dublin, Kilkenny’s Hole in the Wall and the Spiegel Tent in Wexford.

The man behind the moniker is Bell X1’s David Geraghty who released his debut solo album ‘Kill Your Darlings’ in 2007, to critical and fan acclaim. The album was also nominated for a Choice Music Prize that year. 2009 saw David return with his second solo offering ‘The Victory Dance’. Both of these albums were written and recorded between stints in the hectic Bell X1 touring schedule.

It is a busy year for Mr. Geraghty as he is also writing the film score for “You’re Ugly Too” starring Aidan Gillen. The film is set to appear at film festivals around the world from September with a release date due for next year.

Foy Vance, new E.P., 'Feel For Me' out 26th of September

Foy Vance, 'Joy of Nothing'

Info: Born in Bangor, Co. Down, Foy Vance spent much of his early years in America's Midwest with his father, a preacher, where they settled in Oklahoma. Vance's musical influences are borne very much from those formative years as he travelled extensively through the southern states and was exposed to a variety of traditional and local music, before eventually returning to his birthplace where he began to write his own music. A distinct cross-over of both places he calls home are evident in his work, and he has been mentioned in the same breath as Van Morrison and Bruce Springsteen by critics. 

Songs such as the E.P.'s opener, 'Feel For Me' and 'Joy of Nothing' (the title-track of his latest album, above video) capture his message perfectly, described far better than I could surmise on his website; 'They often find their ways to tragic ends, but Vance reminds us constantly that we reap what we sow and sometimes we’re reaping very little. He presents the sadness that we find in our coffers as something valuable, as something that shouldn’t be dismissed as failure.' In essence, you're invited to harness the sadness that befalls you, almost embrace it and use it as a point of reference to fully appreciate the brighter days that are ahead. From a personal point of view, what really stands out about the tracks on the Feel For Me E.P. is the blend of soul, Americana folk and the lovely little dash of uplifting gospel on the title track.

Additional Info: Foy Vance has revealed details of his new Feel For Me EP, out 26th September on Glassnote Records. The four-track Feel For Me EP is the third single to be taken from Vance’s award-winning album Joy Of Nothing, and follows 'You & I', which featured vocals from the legendary, multiple Grammy-winning, Bonnie Raitt.

Vance has also been announced as the support to Ed Sheeran this year at the iTunes Festival that takes place in London’s well know venue the Roundhouse on September 29th. Firm friends, Sheeran and Vance have toured together extensively - including Vance supporting Sheeran at Madison Square Garden last December - and appear on each other’s most recent albums. Sheeran sang backing vocals on 'Guiding Light' from Joy Of Nothing, Vance returns the favour on 'Afire Love' on Sheeran’s new album X, and has a co-writing credit on the track 'Tenerife Sea'.

Last November, Joy Of Nothing was announced as the winner of the inaugural Northern Ireland Music Prize, ahead of albums from Two Door Cinema Club, Tired Pony, And So I Watch You From Afar, and Girls Names.

King Fantastic, 'Los Angeles International'

Info: King Fantastic will always be VIP's on the blog as the first people I ever interviewed back at the end of 2013 and because their debut album Finger Snaps and Gun Claps (2010) remains one of my all time favourite rap albums, which, despite multiple listens, just won't get old. While Killer Reese One and DJ Troublemaker did release a remix album, Call My Lawyer in December 2013, fans have been eagerly awaiting their second album, and thankfully the wait is almost over with The Great Man Theory due for release shortly. In the run up to the release King Fantastic have brought out three singles, the excellent 'Yup... Yup...Yup...' and 'Spooky Spooks & The Trouble With Capitalism' and now 'Los Angeles International' (above video). All signs are pointing to an equally immense follow up to Finger Snaps and Gun Claps, of the three singles my own personal favourite is 'Spooky Spooks & The Trouble With Capitalism', below, it's a zinger and enough to keep me going until the full album is out.
