Info: Hailing from Clane in Co. Kildare, rapper Low Life Luke released a new music video directed by Shane Doran for his single 'Rising' featuring fellow Irish hip-hop acts Lurch and Ganiyu TLG on Wednesday, and it's already clocking up an impressive amount of views.
I instantly loved this track from Low Life Luke for two reasons, firstly it brought me back to mid 90's U.S. hip-hop sounds both musically and in respect to the video itself, but the comparisons to across the Atlantic end there. The confidence Irish rap and hip-hop acts continue to display in using their own accent is once again on display here as LLL and Co. reject the temptation to adopt an unnatural voice and keep it all native. In terms of sound it reminds me of a slowed-down Young Fathers or Unknown Mortal Orchestra beat, the restrained aggression is energising and the added complimentary combination of Lurch and Ganiyu TLG's vocals allow the mood to see-saw, dipping from calm to assertive in equal measure. A hip-hop fans track with a quality video, made in Ireland.
