Why We Run - A Moment To Return
Info: 'A Moment To Return' is the first single from Sydney quartet Why We Run's forthcoming debut album (due April 2016). The track was produced and mixed by Wayne Connolly (Boy & Bear, Cloud Control, Paper Kites), the songs nostalgic lyrics and driving energy are reminiscent of indie stalwarts like The National, The Killers, Joy Division and Silent Alarm-era Bloc Party. Comprising of Belgian ex-pat Nic Cogels, brothers Ed and Lloyd Prescott and guitarist Nick Langley, the band have previously released two other singles, 'Comfortable Lie' and 'Ignites', both of which previously featured here on Remy's Music & Film.
'A Moment To Return' retains Why We Run's almost lo-fi indie sound and hazy vocals, the guitar riffs roll melodically through the song giving it a restrained but forthright motion filled with intent. In an unusual way the Australian band had me thinking more about contemporary Scandinavian indie rock bands on this one such as Kent from Sweden in particular. It's easy to see why they've had a lot of positively received radio play in their home country on the likes of Triple J and kind words from Rolling Stone describing a previous track as 'Beautiful and dream-like'. The album release in April next year should see Why We Run move into the next phase with regard to an increase in their domestic and international exposure.
