Otherkin - I Was Born
Info: Fresh from the success of 'Feel It', Dublin grunge-pop outfit Otherkin keep the good vibes going with the release of their new track ‘I Was Born’ and their biggest Irish headline show so far on April 8th at Whelan's in Dublin.
'I Was Born' was recorded at Clique in Straffan with David Prendergast and Jason Boland, and was mixed in the UK by Jolyon Thomas; best known for his work with Slaves. It’s another Otherkin heavyweight thumper, and is the first taste of their second EP, the follow up to their rambunctious debut four-tracker ‘The 201 EP’ released at the end of last year; which will follow later in the spring.
Otherkin's 'I Was Born' has an instant impact, it's opening muted guitar leading to a late 80's inspired hard rock single strum to announce the rock and roll frenzy that is squeezed into it's just shy of three minutes duration. There is no let up from start to finish, no breakdown, and the final third somehow manages to soar even higher with searing guitar riffs, punk vocals and manic drumming. The band also manage to succesfully lay a clean and workable sheet of pop sounds over their grunge foundations.
Having recently seen both Fangclub and WOLFF share the stage in Whelan's at one of the best support / main act combos I've seen in quite a while, the prospect of seeing both again with Otherkin headlining is mouthwatering and a must attend event, expect to see a lot of black leather.
