Silverbacks - Techno Dogs

Info: The kings of Dublin lo-fi indie rock, Silverbacks, return with the first single 'Techno Dogs', from their forthcoming E.P., No Duds Club.

Regulars to the blog here will know that I'm a huge fan of Dublin four-piece Silverbacks, whose sophomore album, Hot Bath, featured in my Top 10 Independent Irish albums of 2015. It's the amalgamation of many of my tastes from the late 70's right through to the late 90's that appeals to me the most, chronologically from Television's Marquee Moon, to Pavement's Brighten The Corners. Their laid-back sound and seemingly effortless ability to churn out songs that are not only consistently enjoyable, but also eschew sun-kissed Californian vibes that bring inner happiness on the gloomiest of days.

'Techno Dogs' sticks to the winning formula, but with added twists, in front of the backdrop of chugging hazy bass-lines and rolling guitar riffs comes small moments of regret in front man Dan O'Kelly's vocals, the general happy mood of the song tempered by the forlorn and repeated delivery of the short line; 'I didn't see her', not to mention the Thin Lizzy-esque guitar play toward the end of the track, appetite duly whet.

If you enjoyed this track, now is a good time to check out their back catalogue at the Bandcamp link below including the excellent Hot Bath, they're free, but be kind!
