The Shaker Hymn - Baltic Heart
Info: 'Baltic Heart' is the latest single from Cork band The Shaker Hymn's sophomore album, Do You Think You're Clever? At the time of the album's April release we observed that it was; "...an interesting mix of notable and subtle influences and sounds spanning an expansive timeline from late 1960's psych and garage, to 90's indie and much more in between and after." and that 'Baltic Heart' itself was "a wonderful blend of classic 70's folk, sunny Californian surf-pop and anthemic glam rock with a country guitar twang."
Somehow revisiting the song almost half a year later has brought a slightly different perspective, perhaps as a result of hearing it in isolation from the rest of the album. While the previously attributed decade is still appropriate, it may have been a few years off, I now hear a mix of Bowie, The Band and The White Album, although none of them are overtly obvious, there's echoes of all three within. Thankfully I'm enjoying it a lot more the second time around and now want to have another run at the rest of the album again.
The Shaker Hymn have a couple of live dates coming up before the year is out at the following venues;
Dec 3rd - Tir Na Nog, Cavan
Dec 11th - Kino, Cork (w/ Rozi Plain. Tickets: https://www.uticket.ie/event/rozi-plain-sudden-club/
