Sub Motion - Soccer Mom

Info: SUB MOTION are a Dublin based explosive punk/rock band, that have been around for 4 years now. After releasing several EP’s, the band took some time to revamp their sound and image in early 2016. The result of this was their single 'Headchecked', released in October 2016. This single marked a new beginning for the band and gained immediate praise, with Hot Press telling everyone to "Meet the band of unashamedly serious rockers defiantly pushing against the grain of indie and folk bands in Ireland". RTE 2fm's Dan Hegarty announced it as his "favourite song towards the end of 2016", along with radio stations from the UK and US playlisting the track.

My introduction to Sub Motion came earlier this year when they played the main stage in Whelan's in support of the excellent MUNKY, and my liking for their sound was instant. It was an invigorating rock experience, pazz-azz, attitude and good songs all rolled into one. With latest single 'Soccer Mom', all those feels return.

The dual electric guitars, pounding drums and Rebecca Geary's forceful vocals provide a combination that is arresting and leaves the listener reeling from the frenetic pace and vibrancy by track's end. This is how I'd imagine Yeah Yeah Yeah's if they went for a full on punk approach to their music, it's difficult to resist the sheer momentum of the song, but why would you want to in reality. We desperately need more acts like Sub Motion in Ireland right now as there is a notable gap in the heavier rock department, thankfully they've sent the flare up on our behalf.
