REMY began life in the summer of 2012 as a music and film blog, primarily a diary of music and films that I wanted to share with friends. Not long afterwards the focus switched to covering independent Irish acts, as well as international artists. Film reviews eventually got the bump due to the high volume of quality music emerging from the local scene which has grown exponentially year on year, a period many agree is the most active, experimental and talent-laden the country has ever seen. The primary goal is to recommend and promote the best music to as many sets of ears as possible.
Over the past 5 years Remy has interviewed over 120 artists including well-known Irish personas Damien Dempsey, Mundy, Duke Special, and internationally the likes of José González, Public Service Broadcasting and Finley Quaye. Recently REMY was also added to Feedspot's Top 50 Irish Music Blogs alongside some of the best blogs in the country from the last few years.
Nothing beats the buzz and memories that are borne out of the live music experience however, and I am at my happiest when attending gigs, in particular local rising acts. Which brings me to a very happy, and for me personally, exciting introduction to two hugely gifted photographers who have recently agreed to participate in covering even greater ground on the ever-expanding local and festival circuit here on REMY, Sarah Ryan and Niall O'Kelly. In addition to the visual side of things, we will be working together as a team on a number of interesting projects over the coming months, watch this space.
Sarah Ryan is a Dublin-based freelance photographer with a background in music promotion who covers arts and culture events, with a particular passion for music festivals and gigs. In 2017 she joined one of Ireland's most well-respected music websites, The Thin Air. Sarah and Remy have previously covered local festivals together such as Metropolis, Hard Working Class Heroes and Whelan's Ones to Watch.
Niall O'Kelly dabbles on both sides of the camera lens, but primarily behind it as a professional photographer in a personal capacity, whilst also working with some of the top names in the industry. He is also the drummer for fast-rising Dublin electronic act EHCO and a photographer for The Thin Air.
