Single: Larry - Cocker Spaniel

Larry is a three piece band from Dundalk. A combination of lo-fi alt rock with raw emotive lyrics & pop sensibilities stems from the likes of Ryan Adams, Pixies and Wilco. They have been honing their live shows around the country in small venues and festivals since forming in late 2017.

Larry recorded their debut album in Electrical Audio, Chicago with renowned recording engineer Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies, Shellac) in September 2018. It will be released on 12" vinyl and streaming services through Pizza Pizza Records. Larry is Joey Edwards, Aoife Ward & David Noonan.  

Last year Dundalk trio Larry gave us a tantalising taster of their sound with a live video for track 'WAH', yesterday they released the first single from their forthcoming debut album with accompanying video for 'Cocker Spaniel'. It's a difficult one to pin down and on the surface it shouldn't be, in its quieter moments, particularly at the intro, it reminds me of American Analog Set, however the slightly distorted jangle of electric guitars thrusts it further into rock territory. The song's chorus hints at Big Thief, but ultimately, what Larry have served up is another delicious hors d'ourves of meandering chill, a passive / impressive roll of the dice across all four minutes. 

I love the video for the track also which stars the wonderful Jesse on four-legged duties, and needless to say, I'm terribly excited about Larry's debut album, I can't wait to hold it in my hands on vinyl.
