It's coming up to three years since Dublin alt-pop and experimental solo act The Pickled Onions, aka Paddy McGovern, released his debut EP, the wonderfully mellow and quirky The Woods, littered with lo-fi indie passages. 'Room' is the first taste of sophomore EP The Mines which is set for release later in the summer.
Originally an electronic artist, The Pickled Onions continues his foray into joy-inducing laid-back indie rock. A rambunctious and rattling snare / cymbal thrashing provide the kindling for a summery jam accompanied by a rumbling guitar riff, whilst McGovern's vocal soothingly assures that brevity and sunshine will over-ride any sense of potential carnage. At just over two minutes it's a juggernaut of congenial columns of sound which are brash and delightful in equal parts. A straight-up, no frills indie-rock punch.
