Perhapsy - Morning Star
Info: Early last year Oakland experimental pop act Perhapsy released the gorgeous and delicate single 'Morning Star' from his debut album, Me Tie Dough-ty Walker. Earlier this week he released the video for the single which we are delighted to share.
The video was shot by Madeline Kenny and directed by Barber himself. The video features multiple layered images, shots of Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland, and solo dance/choreography by Anna Greenberg (of the renowned Kristin Damrow Dance Company in San Francisco).
Clock-ticks and muted, percussive guitars begin a steady stream of major-7th arpeggiations before Barber's spiderweb-like vocals enter the song. An atypical kick drum/snare pattern propels the tune which develops layer by increasingly complex layer. Slightly post-rock elements meet a Flaming Lips-esque bassline groove, all accentuated by the lyric, "Next, is all there is..."
