BENZ - 'The Smile'

Info: Benz is the moniker of Ebba Salomonsson from Sweden taken off her upcoming debut EP 'Erazor' (out in February 2019).

Benz began as an outlet for Salomonsson to explore her own self – a way to reflect on the past and reminisce. Her music combines overdriven guitars with more soothing elements which shows the true diversity of her sound. On 'The Smile' Benz delivers a slow burning anthem about loss and longing for something that’s not present anymore. The music brings together elements of jazz, country and indie rock.

A sincere warmth mixed with melancholic moments pervades the new single 'The Smile' from Swedish act Benz. A musical touch point could be the chamber pop ambience of Mercury Rev's Deserter's Songs or Band of Horses' indie-folk debut LP Everything All The Time (think 'The Funeral'). No space is sacrificed across the length of the track with Benz filling the entire sonic arena like a smoke-filled glass jar. An interesting occurrence is how the vocal gradually becomes indiscernible before fading altogether, replaced by a brass solo. A very soothing slice of introverted dream-folk from the Malmö-based artist.
