Lycio are a hybrid electronic live band combining soulful vocals with real/electronic instrumentation. They have developed a distinct sound while creating music that covers a variety of moods and styles, from up beat pop to alternative electronic. With their focus on groove and emotion, everything is performed live; there are no backing tracks or stock loops.
Birmingham trio Lycio released their latest single 'Young Ties' last week, opening with a crystal clear pained soulful vocal and floating piano sequences, it doesn't take long for the power and build of the track to present itself. A grooving and delightfully off-kilter rhythm pulls and pushes before the trio unleash a bellow of charged energy. The tenderness of the break at 2:27 gives a momentary pause for breath, but it's not long before a jerking shudder pulls us sonically asunder, setting up Lycio for their smackdown finale. The most appealing aspect of 'Young Ties' is the authenticity of the band's desire to pour huge amounts of energy and sound into the track, as though their lives depended on releasing the coil.
