The metamorphosis of one of my favourite Irish bands of the last 3 years, Galway's Bob Skeleton, has been such a weirdly wonderful voyage since the release of their debut EP Shade in 2016. From straight-up indie-rock, to lo-fi jangle-pop, to guitar-pop, they're a band that won't stand still. New single 'After You' however, feels like the most earnest foray into completely virgin territory. Yes the jangles and indie sound are still there, but this feels more like the off-beat and kooky guitar-based pop of the likes of Belle & Sebastian, drifting into the theatrical joviality of a Bryan Ferry singing cabaret in the shower dream sequence, with wonderful bass-playing integral to keeping the bounce fully alive on 'After You'. Thankfully we don't have to wait too long to see what else they're about to pull from their collective sleeves.
