Not Monsters - On Tilt
Info: Not Monsters is what happens when you smash the melodic experimentalism of CFIT together with the powerhouse riffing of Punch Face Champions. Despite only joining forces a year ago, this Dublin based supergroup have already played a number of shows around Ireland, beginning with Vantastival, and including Canalaphonic, State’s Faces 2016, Knockanstockan and Electric Picnic. Not Monsters are about to launch their debut single, 'On Tilt' on May 28th in The Grand Social.
On first listen of 'On Tilt' I enjoyed it, was subconciously reminded of an array of bands and songs I liked from the past, this is good. It's from the second and subsequent plays that you get a warm feeling, on face value Not Monsters have created a fun track, but when you start to absorb it a bit more you begin to hear the angst and isolated moments of despondency in the lyrics; "I learnt how to be honest with myself, it was little to no help,I lost some friends, lost some family, like car windows swapping scenery, I think I may have started losing days, because they tend to blend together and fade, and meaning's getting harder to pin down..."
For a debut single this is an impressive and assured release, (unsurprisingly given the band members' repertoire with other line-ups), they've expertly merged highs and lows from start to finish complimented by intelligent lyrics. Drawn on classic contemporary alternative rock guitar riffs and drums and delivering a raucous finale with aplomb, they've ultimately made 'On Tilt' a very, very easy number for even the most ardent musical pedant to enjoy without any effort.
