Tanjier - 'Miles'
Info: On Friday, July 13, Tanjier released their new single, Miles. Having debuted the track to the crowds at this year’s Forbidden Fruit Festival, Tanjier’s traditionally ambient and moody sound has been refined and enhanced. Taking inspiration from the likes of Coldplay and LCD Soundsystem, the track is bursting with energy, colour, and indelible hooks.
Lyrically the song comes from a place of sadness and longing but it’s juxtaposed with an upbeat chorus and lead synth hook.
The song was recorded and self-produced in the trio’s home studio with mixing and mastering duties given to Dublin’s Diffusion Lab. Having performed at Forbidden Fruit in June, closed the Other Voices Festival and excited crowds at Electric Picnic last year, Tanjier plan to take the single nationwide with headline shows and festival slots on their agenda. Upcoming show include; BARE in the Woods, Castlepalooza, Electric Picnic, and a Secret Headline Dublin Gig.
The first thing that hits you with Tanjier's first single in a year since 'Hymn' (I couldn't believe it's been that long!) is how the trio have consciously gone for a big summer festival bopper with 'Miles'. Whilst the vocals reflect the melancholy of being the unwilling half of a separation, the sound climbs upwards to a more sanguine plateau. The electro beats and keys are blocky and direct giving the track a wholesome and defined rhythmic flow which ultimately rises above any feelings of sombreness. The Tanjier evolution continues and it's going to be interesting to hear what the last 12 months of change throws up next.
